MYOPIA MANAGEMENT Profit and Fee Setting
Raise your hand if you had orthodontia as a kid. Do you remember how much you… or more aptly, your parents… paid for those braces? Why would your parents be willing to spend so much on your beautiful smile? VALUE! People will invest in things that they perceive have value.
I bring up orthodontia because it is a fantastic and widely used analogy for myopia management (specifically orthokeratology… but more on that in a later post). Patients understand it. They get it.
Position Myopia Control as a SPECIALIZED SERVICE… Because it is!
Let’s say you want to be the bomb-dot-com at myopia managment. Do you wake up one morning and just start doing it? No.
Let’s look at what goes into it:
Continuing education (registration fee, airfare, hotel)
Time spent away from office while learning
Countless hours spent refining new office procedures, paperwork, etc
Total = $80,000
I feel confident in this estimation because this is what I have invested over the last 4 years on education, equipment and time spent. And I didn’t do it overnight. It takes effort and diligence.
I don’t tell you this to scare you away, I tell you this to emphasize the point that this is a SPECIALIZED SERVICE. It is valuable. It is up to us to make sure we set our fees appropriately to reflect that value.
